Volney Elementary School held a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Reward Day for students on Jan. 29. The reward day recognized students for being role models of the school’s four behavioral expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe and Be a Problem Solver.
James E. Lanigan Elementary School in the Fulton City School District has received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational alliance program to support the school’s math and science programs.

Hockey, basketball and bowling shared the spotlight in recent Oswego High School sports action. The Oswego boys’ varsity hockey team captured a crucial game on Tuesday with a 5-0 blanking of host Clinton. In the third game of the bowling match, three of our five bowlers had a 279 game meaning that each one only had one frame that wasn’t a strike.

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Jeanne Cieszeski was inducted as the club’s newest member. Jeanne, who was sponsored by Ro Kemmis, is retired from Work Force NY as a program manager.
There isn’t anyone looking forward to the opening day of the New York Yankees’ 2014 season more than Springside’s Mille McCann. When the snow finally melts this spring and baseball becomes the nation’s pastime once again, she will be watching her grandson, catcher Brian McCann, who recently signed a multi-million dollar contract with the team.
Fulton City School District voters will cast their ballots Feb. 4 for projects totaling $4.4 million to maintain the districts buildings and to keep the children and employees more secure, but with state aid the local taxpayer’s burden would be a fraction of that amount. Due to building aid money provided by state aid, and an infusion of $150,000 from the district’s savings for such projects, the final cost to school district taxpayers is expected to be less than $44,000.
