RACES Welcomes New Radio Officer, Thanks Retiring Chief

The latest newsletter went out a couple weeks back and we are pleased with the number of membership renewals. Announcement was made in the newsletter of the new brick walkway campaign to benefit the roof project. Memorial bricks are available for $50 donation that can be inscribed with the names and a message regarding a loved one or ancestor.
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum is pleased to host New Haven town historian, Marie Strong, who will present the first history lecture of the year on Saturday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m. Marie will be speaking about prominent New Haven resident, Elizabeth Shepard. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by donating a pint of blood. Oswego Hospital will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 17 in the healthcare facility’s lower level conference room. Members of the public and hospital employees are encouraged to donate a pint of blood during the drive.
Wednesday’s event was a way to “say ‘thanks’ to all of the dedicated, hard-working individuals in our community that work together to make the 2013- 2014 United Way campaign such a success,” said Melanie Trexler, executive director. Lauren Pistell, executive director of the Shineman Foundation, winner of the 2014 Spirit of the Community Award, said “Everyone here today is here for one reason; because you see something and you do something, because you care deeply about the future of the place you call home.”
Esther Irland passed away quietly on Monday March 10, 2014, at the age of 86.
Gregory A. Case, 55, of Red Creek, passed away on Tuesday March 11, 2014, at Auburn Community Hospital after a brief illness and a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Effective immediately, Mayor Thomas W. Gillen issued a Travel Advisory in the city of Oswego due to today’s (March 12) heavy snow accumulations and whiteout conditions in our immediate area. The “Travel Advisory” phrase means NO unnecessary travel on city streets, and NO parking on city streets between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS: The City of Fulton has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY effective at 3 p.m. (March 12, 2014). Snow and gusting winds along with a forecast of significant snowfall this evening have created very hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are advised against any unnecessary travel. Vehicles will be towed if they become stuck or if they present a hazard.
