The Oswego County Autism Task Force is sponsoring its eighth annual Family Fun Walk for Autism on May 3. The family-friendly event will take place at Leighton School and Wilber Field and Track in Oswego, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The SUNY Oswego Office of Business and Community Relations, in conjunction with the Workforce Development Board of Oswego County, will host the eighth annual Youth Career Summit on March 20. The summit is an opportunity for eighth-grade students from school districts across Oswego County to explore their interests and how they align with career opportunities in the community.
Helen W. Bevz, 94, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Tuesday March 11, 2014, at her home.

Plans are under way for one of the area’s premier fundraising events, the Oswego Christian Community School’s seventh annual auction. Scheduled for April 5, the auction will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Oswego Elks Lodge, corner of West Fifth and Bridge streets.
The community is invited to watch a newly released movie at First United Church of Fulton, 33 S. Third St., Fulton, on March 16 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
A novel idea at Fairgrieve Elementary School has translated into reading success within the building, and students were recently rewarded for their efforts. At the beginning of the school year, Principal Jean Ciesla launched a reading challenge to all the students at Fairgrieve.
Currently, the district is facing a $3 million budget gap. “We’d be remiss if we didn’t consider everything all the way across the board; not just teaching staff, not just non-instructional staff, it’s got to be a comprehensive approach. Because your budget is a comprehensive budget – it applies to everybody,” the superintendent said. He plans to have more meetings with stakeholders and the board in the coming weeks.
