The Fairgrieve Elementary School cafeteria became a laboratory recently when students showcased a variety of projects during the annual science fair. Hundreds of tri-fold poster boards and experiments were on display as students showed their parents some of the things they had learned throughout the school year.

Applications are now being accepted for the Muriel Allerton Scholarship Award given each year by the Professional Journalists and Communicators of Oswego County. Graduating high school seniors throughout the county who are planning to continue their education in a communications-related field are invited to apply for the $500 prize.

Amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit prints and digital images in four contest categories: Bridges, Buildings and Locks; Fun and Festivities; On the Water; and the Nature of the Canal.

Adam Kinney, a graduate student occupational therapy major in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College, was recently awarded the Graduate Professional Excellence Award.

Heidelberg University has released the names of 288 students named to the spring semester dean’s list. Included on the list is Meghan Yost, a senior History and Political Science major from Mexico.

Central New York residents joined State Senator Patty Ritchie to “Fight the Bite” Saturday, disposing of more than 5,600 tires at free waste tire disposal events taking place throughout Oswego County. The total is nearly three times more tires than were collected at similar events last year. Studies have shown that one waste tire can act as breeding ground for one million mosquitoes, which carry deadly diseases like EEE and West Nile.
