U.S. senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday the New Haven Volunteer Fire Corporation will receive a $23,741 federal grant from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The New Haven Volunteer Fire Corporation will use this funding to purchase a new fire hose. The town’s current fire hose is more than 20 years old and is showing signs of deterioration in the form of dry rotting, making the need for a new hose particularly acute.
For the second consecutive summer, Human Concerns, Oswego’s emergency food pantry along with AmeriCorps member, Evan Oustrich, is conducting a backpack drive to aid the United Way’s Stuff-a-Bus campaign. There is a great need throughout Oswego County for backpacks so that students can carry their belongings to school.

The Oswego County Health Department announced today (Aug. 6) that the David C. Webb Memorial Park Bathing Beach on Oneida Lake in the town of Constantia remains closed to swimming due to the presence of a blue-green algae bloom. “We are working with park officials who are monitoring the beach for blue-green algae,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “The beach will remain closed until it has cleared and testing shows the water is safe.”
Harry J. Tynan Sr., 85, a resident of Scriba, passed away Wednesday August 6, 2014, at home.
Anthony J. Putsky, 15, of Martville, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday August 4, 2014.
