State Street United Methodist Church will be hosting a hair cutting and bake sale event on August 21 from 3-8 p.m. A licensed hair dresser will be offering simple, basic hair cuts for $5. The proceeds from this event will be going to the church roof benefit fund.

Colten Matthew Bouchard will be celebrating his second birthday on August 14, 2014. Colten was born at Oswego Hospital weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce. He now weighs 25 pounds.
Gary Thibodeau was convicted of kidnapping New Haven teen-age Heidi Allen on Easter Sunday 1994. Her body has never been found. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. His brother, Richard Thibodeau, was acquitted in a separate jury trial. On Monday dozens of family and friends held a rally in support of Gary in Oswego’s East Park. They touted new evidence that has come to light that they say will help get his conviction overturned.
The Oswego City Band will be performing an exciting concert of Songs and Thunder on Wednesday at Breitbeck Park, according to Trevor Jorgensen, concert band conductor.

The Oswego City School District Board of Education will meet on August 12 at the Education Center second floor curriculum room to conduct the monthly committee meetings and a regular meeting. Board members will gather at 5 p.m. to commence the committee meetings.
The Oswego County E-911 Department hosted a training session this week for communications technicians. The All Hazards Communications Technicians training course took place at SUNY Oswego’s Phoenix Center with a media day on July 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.
AmeriCorps will be holding its annual tennis carnival on August 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Riley Elementary tennis courts. Although the United States Tennis Association’s Oswego tennis program started in 2006, this year will be the seventh year for the tennis carnival, which began in 2007, explained Shane Evans, the new supervisor of the USTA tennis program at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
