Nominations Sought For Distinguished Hannibal Warrior Honor

Last June the Hannibal Central School Districted unveiled the inaugural Distinguished Hannibal Warrior induction class, and now nominations are being sought for this year’s honorees. The effort is designed to recognize notable Hannibal alumni, faculty or local citizens who have contributed to the community and/or school district, achieved distinction for their work and set the standards for others to emulate.

I am always impressed with how hospitable people are – worldwide. This was the case when we were in Haiti. It is an interesting destination, but it is not on many travelers’ radar. In the 1700s, Haiti was the glory of the French colonies and one of the richest colonies in the world. In 1804, Haiti became the first black independent nation. Over the years, poor leadership and other issues caused economic troubles from which Haiti has never fully recovered. I had expected beaches and I was not disappointed.

Fulton Officer Gets Prison Time For Hitting Handcuffed Man

A former sergeant with the Fulton Police Department was sentenced today (Jan. 23) in federal court to 15 months in prison and three years probation for beating a handcuffed man inside the Fulton police station. The Department of Public Justice Office of Public Affairs noted in a press release that Joseph Arigo, 47, pleaded guilty before a federal court judge in September to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law.
