CNY Arts Center Gallery To Host Canal exhibit

“The Oswego Canal: Then and Now,” a photographic exhibit by Nick D’Innocenzo, which will open March 3 at the center’s new location on River Glen Drive on the CCC Fulton Campus. The exhibit depicts the changes along the canal comparing archival photos with their contemporary twin. The exhibit will run March 3 through April 26 with an opening reception on March 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Physical Science Experiments Are Put To The Test

As third grade students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School were studying physics and forces and motion in physical science recently, they decided to put their knowledge to a test. Teams of students were given a project to design and construct a catapult that would launch a marshmallow at a target.

At 7:30 p.m. March 3 and 4, actor and storyteller Natalie Daise will bring to SUNY Oswego's Hewitt Union ballroom stage her one-woman show exploring the evolution of Harriet Tubman from youth born into slavery to the famed "conductor" of the Underground Railroad, spiriting slaves from the South to safety.

One-Woman Show To Dramatize Tubman’s Evolution As Abolitionist

Before the Civil War, Onondaga, Cayuga and Oswego counties were a hub of anti-slavery activity. Among thousands of African Americans who traveled the Underground Railroad north to freedom, many were temporarily housed by participating residents of Syracuse, Auburn, Oswego, Mexico and other area communities. As a bold “conductor,” Tubman made repeated trips to the South to shepherd freedom-seekers along the perilous routes.

Random Acts of Kindness Warm Oswego County

Oswego County residents welcomed a blizzard of kindness this month. The Office of Business and Community Relations at SUNY Oswego would like to thank the community for participating in this year’s National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Students from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, Fulton, Mexico, Phoenix and other school districts showed their spirit by performing small random acts of kindness for fellow students and their teachers.
