The Oswego State women’s basketball team defeated New Paltz 72-49 Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The win improves the Lakers record to 7-14 on the season and 4-9 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz drops to 16-5 overall, 10-4 in the conference.
At Monday night’s meeting, the Common Council approved Local Law No. 2 of the Year 2015 – a local law regarding the denial or revocation of permits. The new law, in part, states that no such permit (for use of city services/space) shall be granted to or renewed for an applicant who is violation of any city of Oswego code, ordinance or local law; or who owes property taxes, water or sewer fees, special assessments, fines for violation of city ordinances or any other fees to the city of Oswego.
Fairley Elementary students learned that the sky is the limit at a recent concert by musician Jared Campbell. His elementary concerts are a part of what he calls the “Blue Project,” an initiative to help students gain self-esteem and an understanding that everyone has value.
John W. Hollister, 85, of Mexico, passed away on Tuesday February 10, 2015, at the VA Hospital in Syracuse.
Jeremiah M. Jones, 2, of Oswego, died Sunday February 8, 2015, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY.
Each month Oswego Health offers two free educational diabetes groups led by the health system’s certified diabetes educator. The Oswego area diabetes group will meet from noon until 1 p.m. February 18. This group meets the third Wednesday of the month in the lower level JPC conference room of the Oswego Health Services Center, which is adjacent to Oswego Hospital.
The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on February 22. Serving will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetable, bread, beverage and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.
As Oswego Speedway’s 65th anniversary season inches ever closer, more than 40 teams have so far committed to the 2015 season at the Steel Palace, set to take the green flag on May 9 presented by Planet Fitness of Oswego and Mitchell’s Speedway Press.
SUNY Canton will continue its strong support at the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways in 2015, its seventh consecutive year as a sponsor. SUNY Canton will continue as the divisional sponsor of the popular Sportsman division, this year at both Brewerton and Fulton.
To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.
