Despite the frigid weather conditions the effort to raise funds for Oswego Harborfest continued with a successful chicken barbeque on February 7. Members of the Oswego Harborfest Board of Directors rallied around the project and throughout the afternoon hundreds of local residents visited Gibby’s Irish Tavern to take home the Gibby Thompson prepared chicken, salt potatoes and spicy corn.
Christopher Church and Cody Hogan, residents of the town of Oswego in the 130th Assembly District, are among the 226 new members of the State Police. Gov. Andrew Cuomo congratulated them at the 202nd session graduation ceremony from the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy in Albany. The new troopers will report for field duty on February 12. For the following 10 weeks, the new troopers will be evaluated under a field-training program supervised by senior Field Training Officers.
UPDATED INFORMATION: Edward G. Lewis was charged this evening (Feb. 12) with Manslaughter in the first degree, a class “B”felony. The Oswego County DA’s Office and investigators with the NYSP are continuing their investigation with the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s office. Additional charges are pending later this week.

SUNY Oswego’s spring honors production, “Circle Mirror Transformation,” will key on emotions-exposing games within an acting class within the play, as it runs the last weekend in February and the first weekend in March in Hewitt Union’s lab theater. Written by Annie Baker and first performed off-Broadway in 2009, the Obie-winning play will preview at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, and run at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 and March 6 and 7, with a finale at 2 p.m. March 8. All performances are in the “black box” theater across the union’s lobby from the ballroom.
Oswego County Legislator David Holst, District 4, (left) congratulated Fred Swartz of Parish for more than 40 years of service to the community. County, town and village officials in Parish recently honored Swartz, who began serving in 1972 as a member of the grievance of board of review.

A pre-Lenten Mardi Gras Party will be held at First United Church of Fulton, 33 S. Third St., on February 15 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The community is welcome.
