As State Senator, it’s my job to represent the interests and opinions of the thousands of constituents who reside in the 48th Senate District. As I work to improve our region by creating jobs, boosting the economy, supporting our schools, cutting taxes and more, it’s imperative that I learn about what matters to you. In an effort to do just that, last December I launched my 2015 Legislative Survey.
State Senator Patty Ritchie is inviting people to stand up for teachers and students by signing her petition in support of repealing the Gap Elimination Adjustment; a budget gimmick commonly known as the GEA, which has cost schools across New York State upwards of $8 billion since its implementation.
The gifts were distributed to area seniors participating in OCO’s Home Delivered Meals program and those that visit OCO’s Senior Dining and Activity Centers.
Dr. Vincent J. Intondi, who received a SUNY Oswego master of arts degree in history in 2003, will speak about and sign his book, “African Americans Against the Bomb,” in a free Black History Month presentation at 2 p.m. Feb. 23, in the college’s Marano Campus Center auditorium.
Oswego Speedway and Oswego Kartway will be on display as a part of the 15th annual Great Eastern Whiteout on February 14 at the Fulton War Memorial. The antique and vintage snowmobile show and race meet is hosted by the Fulton Area Snow Travelers Snowmobile Club, and annually brings some 3,000 people to the area. The event is the second largest snowmobile show, by attendance, in the entire northeast, New England, and the Ohio Valley with highlights including more than 500 sleds on display, 30 plus vendors, a parts swap area, vintage sled rides, and races.
This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester.
The committee was very receptive to a proposed French Club trip, but took no action Monday night. The proposed trip ties in with the standards. The students will make connections with what they have learned in the classroom especially in relation to the Iroquois Nation. Also Monday night, the superintendent said the redistricting proposal is in a “preliminary draft” phase. A formal presentation will be presented for board consideration at the next meeting.
Paul H. Hicks, 64, of Sterling, passed away on Monday February 9, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.
William Thomas Toolan, 61, died at his home in Oswego on Thursday, February 5, 2015.
Mayor Thomas Gillen has declared a Winter Snow Advisory, effective today (February 9), at 2 p.m. The mayor is asking all motorists to please adhere to the Alternate Street Parking Regulation, and he has emphasized that all violators will have their vehicles ticketed and towed. This Winter Snow Advisory will be in effect until Thursday (February 12), at
2 p.m.
