St. Luke Staff Event Lends Support To Oswego Animal Shelter

Once a week, St. Luke Health Services director of nursing Theresa Makin RN, who is also a volunteer at the shelter, stops in to pick up a fury friend and brings it along to St. Luke where they spend the day visiting residents. It’s special because for Elvis and others like him, there is no shortage of attention and affection as they make their “rounds” throughout the skilled nursing residence.

The Nazareth College Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will present Fuji, and les Fant’mes de los Sue’os Perdidos, an original, multilingual play by department faculty member, Dr. Candide Carrasco. The show runs February 27 at 8 p.m. and February 28 at 2:30 p.m. in Callahan Theater at the Nazareth College Arts Center. The play will be performed in English, with some French, Spanish, and Italian.

Oswego County Historical Society Annual Silent Auction Scheduled April 10

The Oswego County Historical Society will host the 28th Annual “Not So Silent Auction” on April 10 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center at 26 E. First St. Tickets are $20 and will be available for purchase at the door the day of the event. Currently, the auction committee is organizing another fun event in support of the society’s Richardson-Bates House Museum headquarters.

Local residents are continuing to receive direct mail solicitations from companies that offer to provide deed reports and other information for fees of $83 to $89, when the information is readily available through county offices, County Clerk Michael Backus said Friday. Property owners can obtain a certified deed at the Oswego County Clerk’s office at 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego for $5.

We have heard a lot from the Governor’s office about the success of New York’s Health Exchange. The exchange was set up pursuant to ObamaCare which mandates that all Americans obtain health insurance. The exchanges, which are either set up by individual states or by the federal government (when a state decides not to opt into the program), are, in theory, supposed to provide a market for people to purchase health insurance. New York, pursuant to an executive order of the Governor, set up its own exchange. Compared to other states and to the federal government’s system, New York’s exchange has had fewer reported problems.

Oswego County Humane Society To Hold Valentine’s Day Adoption Event As PetSmart Adoption Partner

The Oswego County Humane Society has been selected as a PetSmart Adoption Partner by PetSmart and PetSmart Charities and will hold its first PetSmart Adoption Event on Valentine’s Day weekend, February 14 and 15 at the new PetSmart store in Lowe’s Plaza in Oswego. For this first adoption event, the foster animals appearing at the adoption day will be teenaged or older cats in all shapes, varieties and colors.
