State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to help the City of Fulton improve recreational opportunities at the city’s Recreation Park. A portion of the capital funding will go towards the construction of a new playground with the remainder funding a kayak launch on Lake Neatahwanta.
The Oswego Middle School has announced the winners of its “Team Bee” and building-wide spelling bee, according to Principal Mary Beth Fierro. Seventh graders Alexandria Delfino and Claire Hook, as well as eighth graders Alyssa Lee and Andrew Caprin won the Oswego Middle School competition.
Nearly 130 two- and four-year degree candidates received diplomas from Alfred State in December.
Oswego County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner today (Feb. 4) announced the appointment of a special task force dedicated to improving health and reducing poverty in Oswego County. The Community Health and Poverty Reduction Task Force will serve as a steering committee to work with CZB consulting group of Alexandria, Va., to guide a comprehensive study of programs and services available to help those in need in Oswego County. The task force is chaired by County Legislator Roy Reehil (District 5, Constantia).
Performer and teaching artist Dave Ruch visited Lanigan Elementary recently and gave a musical and historical performance to Lanigan fourth graders. The concert included ancient songs about our state’s history including the Iroquois Native Americans, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Erie Canal and more.
In conjunction with the Fulton City School District’s implementation of the Positive Behavior, Interventions and Supports initiative, Fairgrieve holds monthly award assemblies to recognize students whose actions exemplify positive character traits. One student from each class is selected as an “expectation expert.”
Anamae M. Mitchell, 102, a resident of the East River Road in Oswego, passed away Tuesday February 3, 2015, at her home.
Several Michael A Maroun kindergarteners and first graders were recognized for their display of responsibility during the month of January. Each student received an ice cream coupon valid at the school cafeteria as an award. Peer support shown through as the applause rang through the room as each student was called.
The Oswego Elks Lodge will host Ontario District Elks Major Projects (Cerebral Palsy) fundraiser on Saturday, in conjunction with Warm Up Oswego. “Long Time Coming” has donated its time for this special cause.
