The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee presented Fred Ferguson with a certificate of appreciation for his 20 years of service to the county. Ferguson is a cook manager with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

February is National Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 1.5 million high school students experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year. One in three teens in the US will be a victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse from a dating partner.
History was recently made during a physical education class at John C. Birdlebough High School, as a select group of students braved bitter cold temperatures and steady snow fall to become the first to participate in a snowshoeing exercise.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team, ranked ninth nationally, extended its win streak to three with a 1-0 victory over host Utica College on Tuesday night in the Memorial Auditorium. With the win, the Lakers improve to 14-4-1 on the year and 10-3-1 in league play while the Pioneers fall to 6-8-4, 4-5-3.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team fell 59-55 to Geneseo Tuesday evening at Max Ziel Gymnasium. This is only the third SUNYAC loss for the Lakers, dropping them to 8-3 in the conference and 12-6 overall.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell 67-56 to Geneseo Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 5-13 on the year and 3-8 in the SUNYAC.
“For the previous couple of years, our group of AmeriCorps members has made infant fleece blankets and donated them to the families with infants in need who are referred to the County Health Department’s Maternal Child Health Program,” said Carrie Victory, Oswego County AmeriCorps. “The program provides home visits from public health nurses between doctors appointments. AmeriCorps members experience the tremendous reward that comes from helping others.” More than 30 blankets were made by the group and other volunteers.
