Brewerton, Fulton Speedway Winter Bash A Big Success

Despite the heavy snow, the 2015 Fulton and Brewerton Speedways ‘Winter Bash’ was a big success. A large crowd turned out for an evening of race talk, awards, and giveaways at the Radisson Ale House. On the big screen was the final night of the DIRTcar Winter Nationals from Volusia Speedway in Florida. In an exciting Modified feature, Fulton Speedway Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Champion Larry Wight was crowned the four race series champion.

Kingsford Park Students Connecting with Community

Fifth grade students at Kingsford Park School are enjoying the curriculum offered through the Common Core, because it means more opportunities to connect with the community. The standards bring the community to the classroom, and the classroom to the community, allowing students to make real-life connections with their own learning, according to the Kingsford Park Elementary teacher Kelly Moxley.

Volunteers Paint Interior Of Salvation Army

A handful of college students, as well as a local politician, recently gathered at the Oswego Salvation Army’s office to help paint and improve the interior of the building. Students from SUNY Oswego and Oswego Councilor Billy Barlow volunteered their time to help paint a room that is designed for the army’s Bridging the Gap between Youth and Social Services program.

Shelter open for Oswego residents impacted by frozen water lines

The severe cold impacting the region in recent weeks has impacted the City of Oswego’s infrastructure, causing several neighborhoods to be without water due to frozen water lines. Mayor Thomas W. Gillen said the below zero temperatures have caused water lines in several neighborhoods to freeze, leaving residents without water. “It’s possible people will be without utilities, specifically water, for an extended period of time, potentially for several days,” the mayor said.
