James E. Strough Sr., 82, of Volney, passed away Sunday May 24, 2015, at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family.
James E. Strough Sr., 82, of Volney, passed away Sunday May 24, 2015, at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family.
Garry Vicsconti, president of Fulton Veteran’s Council, headed the Memorial Day Ceremony this year at Fulton Veterans’ Park. “All I can ask of you,” said Visconti, “is to think of our veterans. The time is coming that we are losing our older generation, people that played a very important part in American history. We must always remember the veterans, the many people that died protecting our American flag.”
The State University of New York at Potsdam recognized more than 1,000 candidates for graduation during the college’s 2015 commencement celebrations on May 16 and 17.
Access to quality healthcare is a necessary component for a thriving community and we are fortunate to have great healthcare facilities and providers in Central New York. That being said, our healthcare system is under stress because we continue to face shortages of healthcare professionals in New York state, particularly in rural areas. These shortages are particularly acute for primary care doctors and nurses but extend to specialty practices and other healthcare providers.
Memorial Day weekend brings out the bands, food, fun and a lot of red, white and blue for Fulton’s annual Memorial Day Salute. People of all ages gathered along both sides of Broadway/Route 3 to watch the parade commence. The excitement continued at the carnival in the War Memorial parking lot full of rides and games and entertainment and food in the ice rink, followed by fireworks at night.
On May 16, several local adult and student volunteers from the Fulton Raider Modified, Junior Varsity and Varsity Lacrosse teams answered the call from the Fulton American Legion, Fulton VFW Post #569, Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., and Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home to help our local veterans ready the two local cemeteries for Memorial Day. The morning was a complete success.
With a real entertaining Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature going on at the front of field, Billy Decker was quietly making his way to the front from his 14th starting spot. Decker would join the top-three battle for the lead on lap 14 with Tom Sears Jr. and Rob Bellinger.
