Members of the Oswego High School junior class sat through a gruesome presentation Friday to help stop them from making what could be a fatal mistake on prom night, graduation day and beyond. A mock drunk driving accident was staged in the school parking lot. Several teens were “injured.” One young woman, partially ejected from her vehicle, her severed arm was on the ground a few feet away from the wrecked vehicles, was dead – the innocent victim of a drunk driver. The goal of the program is to prevent teens from drinking and driving.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee today announced that May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month. This designation serves to remind motorists to watch for motorcyclists and stresses the importance of motorcycle safety as more bikes are on the roads with the onset of warmer weather.

Organizers of the second annual For The Kids campaign recently presented the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County with a large donation of art supplies for children receiving services from the CAC.
Mount Adnah Cemetery will host a fundraising chicken BBQ May 17, from noon until all is sold. The event will be at Mount Adnah, 706 E. Broadway. Donation is $10 for a full dinner.
On May 8, the annual Bridge Street Run pub crawl throughout the city was completed. There were multiple arrests made, according to city police.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Oswego County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal officer-involved-shooting that occurred on Friday, after Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Constantia for a check-the-welfare call. The deceased is a 58-year-old male resident of Constantia who was the subject of the check-the-welfare call.
Under the guidance of Tammy Seymour, teacher of the deaf and hard-of-hearing at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, local students are working to break down communication barriers.
