Betty Prall, 85
Betty Prall, 85, of Fulton, passed away Thursday December 31, 2015, at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.
A bus tour of Quebec City was part of the Blount’s “Lakes, Legends and Canals” cruise John and I took. One place the bus stopped was high above the city at the Plains of Abraham where we learned that in 1759, during the Seven Years War, the British victory led to France losing possession of Canada. Most likely it is named after Abraham Martin who moved to the area in the 1600s.
The city of Fulton held its inauguration ceremony on New Year’s Day in which two new councilmen and the mayor were sworn into their positions, the council elected a president, and numerous appointments were made, among other business. City Court Judge Hawthorne began the meeting by administering the oath to returning Mayor, Ronald Woodward Sr. All councilmen were then administered their oath, including the two newest councilmen, David B. Ritchie and Donald R. Patrick Jr.
The Scriba Town Board voted Dec. 2 to approve a local law to abolish the position of elected town highway superintendent. The town supervisor would be empowered to appoint someone to the position, with confirmation of the town board. Central New York wins $500 million award. Also, Harborfest has a new leader and Oswego’s water, sewer fees hiked.
“Having the honor of being the mayor of this city is the opportunity of a lifetime. I am humbled, thankful and grateful to the residents for this opportunity,” the new mayor said in his inaugural speech. “To the residents of the city who placed their trust in me, thank you and I promise to work passionately and enthusiastically every day and always make the right decisions for the right reasons.”
