Most Reverend Bishop Robert J. Cunningham will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass and distribute ashes at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 10) at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church in Syracuse. Mass will also be celebrated and ashes will be distributed at the Cathedral at 7 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5:10 p.m.
At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved Local Law No. 1 of the Year 2016 – a local law repealing Section C2-01 of the Charter of the City of Oswego, with respect to city officers and employees. City employees will no longer be bound to live within the city as a condition of their employment. The vote was 6-1 with Council President Shawn Walker casting the lone nay vote.
The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, together with the Office of Fulton Mayor Ron Woodward, today (Feb. 8) announced that it will host monthly economic development meetings with the Fulton business community. Mayor Woodward and members of the Common Council will join the group for the first meeting in Fulton on February 18.
Applications for the Pre-Kindergarten program are now available. The program is designed for children who were born between Dec. 2, 2011 and Dec. 1, 2012 and is offered at no cost. Children are selected by lottery.
A Huntley Hearing held Feb 2 has provided testimony in the case of a Fulton doctor accused of raping a patient in March of 2015. Dilip K. Roy, 51, was arrested on May 5, 2015 and eventually charged with two counts of rape in the third degree, a class E felony, after a patient reported in April that she was subjected to unwanted sexual intercourse during an office visit in March. The 25-year-old patient testified at the hearing in front of Oswego County Court Judge, Donald Todd as well as prosecutor Allison O’Neill and defense attorney Jack Conners.
William J. Germain, 83, of Oswego, died Sunday February 7, 2016, at Morningstar Care Center.
The proposed charter modification would add a Section I, which authorizes the mayor to waive the residency requirements for an officer or employee when the strict adherence to the residency requirements will result in the loss of an officer or employee or the inability to fill a position of employment by the most qualified candidate regardless of residency or domicile.
