The Oswego County Legislature recently recognized the town of Minetto on its centennial and joins in celebrating its proud heritage and promising future. The newest and smallest township in the county was formed on February 26, 1916.
A pair of open houses on Oct. 28 and 29 will welcome the public to a recent renaissance for some of the most popular spaces in SUNY Oswego’s renovated arts building, Tyler Hall. A campus open house from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, will feature tours of the renovated spaces, musical performances, refreshments and more.
Unnecessary Farce will be presented by Quirk’s Players of G. Ray Bodley High School today, Friday and Saturday. Curtain time is set for 7:30 p.m. each performance.
Fifty years ago Oswego County Opportunities was established as the community action agency for Oswego County with a goal of developing anti-poverty programs that would eliminate the impact of poverty and increase the quality of life in Oswego County. From its humble beginnings OCO has grown to become a vital resource for Oswego County.
Justice has been served for a former Fulton family – after a 19-year wait. Convicted cop killer Gregory Lawler was executed this evening in Atlanta. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles denied his request for clemency and he was put to death late Wednesday night. Lawler, 63, was convicted for the Oct. 12, 1997, murder of Atlanta police officer John “Rick” Sowa – a native of Fulton, NY. “I’m glad it’s over. For me, 19 years of waiting is over,” Sowa’s mother, Christine Carlson Roth, told Oswego County Today.
In an effort to say “thank you” to all who serve their country and let them know we are thinking of them throughout this special time of year, I will again be partnering with Ogdensburg native and radio personality Melody Burns in asking people to send yuletide greetings to soldiers through “Christmas Cards for Our Troops.”

James A. Stuart, 69, of Fulton, lost his three-year courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday October 18, 2016.
Kathy Szachta, an account manager in the Personal Lines for Eastern Shore Associates Insurance, Fulton, recently earned the agency’s 2016 “Above and Beyond” award.
