Brazilian State Honors Alfred Frederick For Contributions To Education

Distinguished Service Professor Alfred Frederick of SUNY Oswego last month earned the title of Citizen of the State of Piauí, an award bestowed by the northeastern Brazilian state’s Legislative Assembly for his more than 25 years working to improve education in the state of Piauí and elsewhere in Brazil.

Council OKs Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project

The Common Council approved use of public space and funds in order to support and sponsor the Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project to be held August 18. The production will be directed by Steven York, and is an original dramatic play written by Oswego native Rick Sivers. The project has already received some outside financial support. The city’s share will be $4,000 or less.

The spring skies and water echo with noise and activity as ducks, geese, herons and other birds return to their natal ponds to court and raise their young. Following an indoor slide presentation on ducks and other water bird residents of the center’s ponds, participants will enjoy a walk to the beaver pond to look for waterfowl with naturalist Pat Carney.
