The city of Oswego, Department of Parks and Recreation, would like to announce that the Charles E. Gallagher Swimming Pool will open for the 2017 season on June 26 at 12:30 p.m. Public swim will be between the hours of 12:30 and 5 p.m. and family swim will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Bryn DeMong was presented with a scholarship to help further her education. Bryn, a graduate of Phoenix Central Schools, will be attending Onondaga Community College and then continue at Upstate Medical to complete her studies in Radiology.

With schools across Central and Northern New York wrapping up classes for the summer, kids and their parents are always looking for something fun and exciting to do. To help families make reading a part of their summer vacations, I am encouraging students to participate in the New York State Senate’s Summer Reading Program. This special initiative helps children have fun, prevents learning loss and allows students to strengthen the skills they have already learned throughout the school year.

At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, Kristen Slimmer, of the Youth Bureau, requested approval of the execution and installation of the artwork for the West Riverwalk during 2017. The mural project is a youth-focused initiative with the design and implementation directed by local young people with the support of the city of Oswego, the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and AmeriCorps.
