Tobacco Free Network of CNY Releases Tobacco Data for Oswego County

On June 9, the Tobacco Free Network of CNY released new tobacco data for Oswego County. Biennially, an independent organization conducts a Community Tobacco Survey of adults residing within the three counties that TFN provides services within; Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oswego. Completed surveys are then analyzed for conclusions and used to guide future programming efforts.

Bodley Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian

One hundred percent effort, all of the time. That’s what G. Ray Bodley High School valedictorian Aryelle Barbagallo and salutatorian Megan Nicholson said earned them overall weighted grade point averages of 101.37 and 100.77, respectively. The pair said discipline, hard work, the drive to succeed and a healthy support system all contributed to them being named the top two Class of 2017 students.

Alexa Uttamsingh and Brian Breen are humbled to represent the John C. Birdlebough High School Class of 2017 as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. Youth Bureau Plans Yard Sale to Benefit Oswego City Tree Lighting Event

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau is partnering with Mimi’s Home Cleaning and the Oswego Kiwanis Club to sponsor a city-wide yard and bake sale June 23 and 24. All proceeds will be donated to the City of Oswego holiday tree lighting event. The sale will take place at the Crisafulli Skating Rink on East Ninth Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Phoenix Summer Concert Series Receives Funding

The town of Schroeppel and village of Phoenix are pleased to announce that the recently submitted “Music in the Park” and “Friday Nights of Fun” grants for the summer concert series in Phoenix have been approved for partial funding – $500 and $500, respectively, through the NYS Council on the Arts Decentralization Program with the support of Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Katko Announces Legislation To Stop Importation, Distribution Of Synthetic Substances

This morning (June 19), U.S. Rep. John Katko stood at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse to announce bipartisan, bicameral legislation he has introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to combat the synthetic drug epidemic that has swept Central New York. Toxic, synthetic drugs are designed to mimic street drugs like marijuana, LSD, cocaine, Ecstasy and other hard drugs. They can be more potent than the real thing and just as deadly.

The Fulton Lions Club installed its new slate of officers for 2017-18 and presented club awards for the 2016-17-club year at its June 15 meeting. Michelle Stanard succeeds David Guyer as president. Other officers installed included: Zachary Merry, vice president; Linda Hughes, secretary; and Michael Reardon, treasurer.

Stafford Motor Speedway Next Stop for Triple Crown Championship Series this Friday

The Shea Concrete Triple Crown Championship Series of Supermodified racing presented by ASI Racewear will next head to Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn., for round number four of the overall championship and the second ISMA event on the tour. The winged warriors of the International Supermodified Association will be making their first trip to Stafford since June of 2013, when Mike Lichty drove to victory lane.
