2nd Annual Addiction Awareness Walk, Event for Sunday is Growing

The epidemic of addiction continues to rise and more prevention education is greatly needed, along with treatment options, alternatives, and hope for recovery. The Opioid crisis has contributed to the overdose death rates and suicide rates skyrocketing in Oswego County. Families and friends are in a unique position to help their loved ones through their addiction recovery and could benefit from additional resources to help.

Special Program on Lincoln’s Private Secretary, John G. Nicolay – Fort Ontario Hosts Civil War Author Tom Ebert

History buffs have a rare opportunity to learn about President Abraham Lincoln’s private secretary John George Nicolay Aug. 23, when Civil War historian and Oswego native Tom Ebert presents a free lecture at Fort Ontario State Historic Site. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks at old Fort Ontario and is open to the public.

Oswego School Officials Get Moving On Math & Movement Program

The National Math Foundation (a not-for-profit national charity) is hosting a Summer Institute teacher training and the Super Fun Math Youth Program through August 10 at Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego, featuring the Math & Movement Program. The NMF announced Tuesday that the Oswego City School District is the first recipient of its Math Corps II Program Award. The program is for the entire 2017-18 school year in both Minetto and Charles E Riley elementary schools, the two largest elementary populations.

Ritchie, Barclay to Host Additional Informational Meeting on Lake Ontario Flood Recovery Program

Sen. Patty Ritchie and Assemblyman Will Barclay will host an informational meeting together with Neighbors of Watertown on the Lake Ontario Flood Recovery Program on Aug. 15 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Mexico Middle School Auditorium, 16 Fravor Road, Mexico. Representatives from the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Environmental Conservation, the State Attorney General’s office and the Empire State Development office will also be at the meeting.

Ray Bodley High School this weekend and next.

7th Annual Hunter Arms Homecoming: August 18, 19

Join us for the 7th Annual Hunter Arms/L.C.Smith Homecoming Weekend, August 18th and 19th, 2017 hosted by the Friends of History in Fulton, N.Y., Inc. This two-day event will include special displays (August 19th) at the Pratt House Museum, a shoot, and a dinner during which trophies will be awarded. The museum houses a collection of HUNTER ARMS / L.C. SMITH shotgun/memorabilia on the second floor. During this special weekend, the first floor of the house will be transformed into a museum of “Elsies” shotguns, individually crafted by the artisans who were employed by the Hunter Arms Company.

Mayor Barlow Identifies Damage Caused By High Lake Levels; Will Pursue Damage Assistance

Mayor Billy Barlow today (Aug. 8) announced that Oswego city government has identified specific areas of damage in the Port City due to above average Lake Ontario water levels and flooding along the lake shore within city limits. Under an emergency work order, the city of Oswego hired Delta Engineers to conduct a preliminary survey of the damages caused by the high-water levels and intend to pursue funding to help repair the damage and mitigate against additional damage should high water levels continue to exist in the future.

The Fulton Block Builders Can Be Seen Gathering All Over The City

Dennis Merlino and Steven Cappelltti are block leaders in the Cayuga Street area and worked with members of the Fulton Church of the Nazarene to put together a great day at Quirk Park. There was a bounce house, face painting, music, food, wood working projects for kids and even a real fire truck and police car for families to explore. “It’s just wonderful to see our community coming together and enjoying a beautiful summer day together,” said Dennis Merlino. This was one of many neighborhood gatherings as part of the Fulton Block Builders.
