The village of Phoenix will celebrate its canal heritage with its third annual Locktoberfest, a day of music, crafts, food, and street performers from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 7. The event is one in a series of community festivals celebrating the fall harvest season along the state canal system and is sponsored by the Phoenix Rising, the village of Phoenix, Taste NY, the New York State Canal Corp., I Love New York, and the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.
I am often invited to speak to school-aged kids and during these visits a common question kids have for me is what does it means to be a good citizen. The question itself is inspiring because it means they are searching for ways to be good citizens. What is even more inspiring is without realizing, many kids already know the answer and work to make an impact on our communities each day.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging has scheduled three public hearings to receive input on its proposed plan of services for seniors during the period beginning April 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee presented Helen Buske with a certificate of appreciation for her 20 years of service.
The Salmon River International Sport Fishing Museum, located at 3044 State Route 13 near Pulaski, will hold its fourth annual “Celebrate Fishing Show and Sale” on Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Former patients of Oswego County Hospice will be remembered at the annual Hospice memorial service at 2 p.m. Oct. 15, at Fulton Alliance Church, 1044 State Route 48, Fulton. The service is a remembrance of Hospice patients who have passed away during the past year. All family and friends of those who have received hospice care are welcome.
At approximately 6 a.m., Troopers responded to Lamson Road, east of Smokey Hollow Road, in Lysander for a one-vehicle crash. The investigation revealed a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, operated by Joseph B. Donhauser, 22, from Fulton, was located off the northbound shoulder of the roadway where it struck a tree. Donhauser was pronounced deceased at the scene.
UPDATE: The victim is still missing. The search will resume Monday morning.
Mark Deiter of Walnuttort, Pa., and two passengers were fishing on his 1994 Bayliner 23’ boat when at about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 the boat began to take on water and sink. The two passengers jumped from the boat, Mr. Deiter was on the boat when it went completely underwater and has not been seen since.
George Harold Wynia was born in Oswego Hospital on September 21, 2017, at 2:52 a.m.
