Thomas Cole was born in 1801 in England and immigrated to the United States. By the time the 1800s rolled around most of England and Europe had been turned into farmland or villages and cities so there were very few forested areas. Cole was enthralled with the scenery of the Hudson Valley and painted many works of art that personified the beauty and serenity of the area. His work gained him the status as being the founder of the Hudson River School of Art, a movement that flourished in the mid-19th century creating many landscape artists.
Gertrude Annie Converse, 97, of Phoenix, passed away on
Thursday Sept. 21, 2017, in Syracuse.
If there was a long distance award handed out during the 32nd Annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend it would go to Evans, Ga., Late Model racer Ahnna Parkhurst. The 17-year-old lady racer will make the almost 1,000-mile trip north to the Fulton Speedway to compete in Pit Stop Convenience Stores – Go Nuclear Late Model 50.
Guiding Eyes For The Blind made a presentation at the September Fulton Lions Club meeting. GEFB provides guide dogs to people with vision loss to give those individuals greater independence.
Mexico Elementary School’s open house was a huge success. Students and their families flooded the hallways and classrooms, as the children in grades pre-kindergarten through four were ecstatic to show off their school work and have their parents or guardians meet their teachers.
Bowen’s Corners United Methodist Church is preparing for its Annual Fall Rummage Sale and Bake Sale. The event will be held Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.at the church which is located at 758 State Route 176, just west of Fulton.
The Granby Elementary School Parent-Teacher Group hosted its annual kickoff event to celebrate a great start to the 2017-18 school year. PTG vice president Shannon Beebe said the event served as an opportunity to show students and their families how much life beyond the classroom exists with Granby Gators.

Behling’s Orchard will host Continental Arms Collectors Association’s annual Revolutionary War Encampment on October 1 from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit includes tents for enlisted men and an officer; demonstrations, at the cook fire, with an extensive educational display of utensils and equipage.
