In conjunction with the Children’s Museum of Oswego, AmeriCorps members created a community involvement project which aimed to acknowledge the Oswego Police Department’s dedication to maintaining a safe and joyful community.
OCO Literacy volunteers encourages people throughout New York State to observe National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 24 through 30. Despite the significant role of literacy in today’s world, often little attention is paid to it.
The Oswego area community is invited to join the college community for its 2017 Homecoming celebration, featuring a new campus-community tailgate, on Oct. 14.
“SAF provides a valuable service to Oswego County residents,” said Farfaglia. “I believe that they need more resources to do their jobs. Since only a tiny fraction of the victims come forward, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done so that women, children and our senior citizens are no longer living in dangerous environments. Last year’s budget provided an increase in salaries for legislators. Since I feel what I was receiving was more than adequate I chose to donate that extra $370 to a worthwhile program in our community.”
ESPN columnist, panelist and now bestselling author Kate Fagan will recount her experience coming out as gay among devout Christians on her college basketball team Oct. 10 as a part of SUNY Oswego’s I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series. In her memoir, “The Reappearing Act: Coming Out on a College Team Led by Born Again Christians,” Fagan reveals how she lost motivation to play basketball at the University of Colorado and how close she was to walking away from her full scholarship.
I am so upset. My beautiful dog, Maddie, has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I didn’t know dogs could even get breast cancer. Thank goodness, my vet says we caught it early and there are treatments, but she also said Maddie would have been less vulnerable to it if I had her spayed earlier than I did.
The 2017-18 lineup for SUNY Oswego’s Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series features a premier oboist, a quartet led by a drummer who has played with many jazz greats, an ensemble of four vocalists with a wide-ranging repertoire, Symphoria artists playing “pocket concertos” and a renowned xylophonist.
The Fulton City School District Board of Education is committed to increased communication and transparency, and has worked toward accomplishing that through use of BoardDocs. BoardDocs, a paperless meeting technology, eases the preparation of meeting materials, board packets and public access to non-confidential meeting information.
Students in fifth through 12th grade within the Mexico Academy and Central School District have embraced acceptance of others, kindness and the willingness to see the good in all. Much of that sentiment has always existed within the halls of MACS buildings, but the re-energized high school student body and newly excited middle school students together have committed to accepting Rachel’s Challenge.
The Elms Golf Course in Sandy Creek recently went pink as it hosted a golf tournament to aid in the fight against breast cancer. This is the 14th tournament organized by the Thursday night league. The tournament raised more than $1,775 in support of Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program.
