Fire Prevention Week Brings Safety Lessons To Volney Elementary

In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, a handful of volunteer firefighters educated students from grades pre-kindergarten through six on the following basic measures: never hide during a fire because firefighters need to see where people are, if trapped in a room stay near the door or a window, never go back inside for an animal or toy, smoke detectors should be placed high and people should go low while exiting to a safe meeting place.

Women’s Center To Build Awareness Of Domestic Violence With Take Back The Night

The SUNY Oswego Women’s Center will host the 35th annual Take Back the Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 24, to raise awareness of domestic violence. The Take Back the Night march brings attention to violence, including sexual assault and domestic violence, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A rally with guest speakers will precede the march.

Oswego Airman Graduates Training

U.S. Air Force Airman Nicholas D. Sheary graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Legislators Invited To Town Hall Meeting To Discuss Issues

At the close of Thursday’s meeting, members of the Oswego County Legislature were invited to attend a non-partisan town hall event. Suzanne Stout, representing We the People of Oswego Indivisible, said the event, scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 17, would take place in the Legislative Chamber on the fourth floor of the County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St. “We are a non-partisan group and we are trying to educate ourselves and the public about issues that face Oswego County,” she explained.

Clyne, President and CEO of LeadingAge NY; award winner Tara Searor; St. Luke’s Diane Garcia, who nominated Searor for the award; Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow; and Terrence Gorman, St. Luke CEO and Administrator. Searor received a resolution by the New York State Legislature honoring her and other award recipients from across the state.

St. Luke’s Tara Searor Receives 2017 LeadingAge NY Employee of Distinction Award

Tara Searor is a 2017 LeadingAge New York Long Term Care Employee of Distinction Award recipient. Searor, who has been a Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego for 11 years, received the award from James Clyne, CEO of LeadingAge NY, during a reception held at St. Luke in her honor. The Employee of Distinction Award acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of front line staff working in long-term care settings like St. Luke Health Services, all across New York State.
