Fort Ontario State Historic Site will host a “Wreaths Across America Day” program Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to make wreaths with natural evergreens in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks and place them at the graves of the 77 officers, enlisted men, and their family members buried in the Post Cemetery.
The Oswego Elks Lodge #271 will observe a Memorial Sunday service on December 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the Huckabee-Manor Hall of the Oswego Elks Lodge #271, 132 W. Fifth St., Oswego.
The Pulaski Historical Society will celebrate the Christmas season by participating in “Light Up Pulaski” with an open house on Dec. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will come and sit in front of the Christmas tree while they meet with the children.
CNY Arts Center invites the public to an afternoon of spotlight on local artists with the next Author’s Spotlight, December 3 from 2-4 p.m. to celebrate the writing of two local authors GB MacRae and Gary Pluff and an artist reception for Dennis Krukowski following from 4-5 p.m. The event will be held at the Arts HotSpot at 47 S. First St.
Several SUNY Oswego students from the area took part in internships in fall 2017 with a wide variety of employers through the college’s Center for Expertiental Learning, providing a strong on-the-job learning experience to amplify their coursework.
Americans have a long history of volunteering and hold community service as a hallmark of civic life. Militias that formed during the Revolutionary War and our country’s first fire departments, for example, were made possible by volunteers who saw a need and organized to serve a cause. People through the ages at their own accord have volunteered for the greater good. At no time is this honored tradition of volunteerism more evident in our country than during the holiday season.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team closed the weekend at Williams College with a 7-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. Oswego’s defeat drops the squad’s record to 3-6-0 overall while the Ephs improve to .500 (2-2-0).
With temperatures in the upper 40s, visits from “Elvis” and Santa Claus himself made the Port City’s 2017 “An Oswego Christmas” holiday tree lighting a truly magical event. The chilly misty sporadic rain showers did little to dampen anyone’s spirits. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Oswego; except, of course, for the lack of snow, and no one is really complaining about that. The Port City officially lit up for the holidays on Saturday. Hundreds of people throughout the day enjoyed the community-wide, all-day event that welcomed the holiday season in Oswego at myriad locations.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team opened a two-game trip to Williams College with a 5-0 loss on Saturday night. Oswego now owns a 3-5-0 overall record while the Ephs earn their first victory for a 1-2 mark.
