The 2017 legislative session is under way in Albany. Pursuant to the state constitution, the Governor is required during every session to communicate to the legislature the condition of the state. This, in the modern era, has been known as the Governor’s State of the State address. Traditionally, it has been given in early January by means of a speech in the Assembly chamber.

United Way Drawing Winner Announced

Cheryl Arnold was the winner of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s drawing for a ladies diamond ring. Arnold purchased her ticket at the United Way Stone Soup Luncheon in November.

Free Community Dinner at Minetto United Methodist Church

The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on January 22. The menu will be meatball sub, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.

Legislature Holds Annual Elections in Oswego County

The Oswego County Legislature held its annual elections during their 2017 organizational meeting on January 5. Legislators voted unanimously to re-elect Kevin Gardner, District 13, New Haven, as Chairman and Linda Lockwood, District 11, Volney, as Vice Chairwoman.

Jeannine M. Boyce, 88, of Fulton, passed away Saturday January 7, 2017, at St. Luke Residential Health Services in Oswego.

Leighton Elves Spread Holiday Cheer

As Leighton School’s Holiday Elves wrap up another successful giving season they would like to give thanks to the many donors who helped make the Leighton School Christmas Project possible.
This year, 83 children from 22 families aged newborn – 12th grade received gifts from the Holiday Elves.

Harborfest Donates Shirts to Veterans

The team at Oswego Harborfest collaborated with the Oswego Elks Lodge #271 on its Veterans Program initiative earlier this holiday season.
