Phoenix Students Advocate For Youth Programming In Albany
Five Youth Advisory Council students from the Phoenix Central School District visited Albany on February 5 and 6 to represent Oswego County and meet with New York State senators and assemblymen at a Youth Leadership Forum sponsored by the Association of New York State Youth Bureaus.
Birdlebough Students Shine At Scholastic Art Show
Eight students now have their artwork displayed through March 2 at the Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, to show Central New York residents how hard they worked on their pieces.
Maker Madness To Showcase Hands-on Creativity at SUNY Oswego March 3
SUNY Oswego’s Penfield Library Maker Services will partner with the Zonta Club of Oswego and celebrate International Women’s Day with Maker Madness, an interactive and hands-on event on the library’s second floor from 1 to 5 p.m. March 3. This free event is open to the Oswego campus and community and offers a family-friendly atmosphere where science, technology, engineering, art or math (STEAM) enthusiasts can demonstrate and learn different skills.
Bishop Cunningham to Celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Most Reverend Bishop Robert J. Cunningham will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass and distribute ashes at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church in Syracuse. Mass will also be celebrated and ashes will be distributed at the Cathedral at 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5:10 p.m.

Students donated dozens of hand-crafted, pint-sized blankets to the Maternity Center for distribution to families in the first few hours after a newborn’s arrival.

Timothy F. Grant, 67, of Oswego, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness.
Public Hearing to Address Ban of Chickens in City Limits, Several Other Proposals
The Fulton Common Council announced a public hearing to be held at the next regular meeting addressing several proposals. The public will have the opportunity to weigh in on six separate proposals. Two proposals are relative to raising animals within city limits as city officials look to amend Chapter 475 “Property Conservation” by adding chickens to the list of animals prohibited from living within city limits. “If we don’t have chickens, we wouldn’t have to worry about them running on the sidewalk,” Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said. Several other proposals will be up for discussion.
