The staff of the Oswego County Office for the Aging will schedule appointments at locations around Oswego County in February to help seniors apply for assistance paying their fuel bill through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

Commercial truck drivers are in urgent demand in Oswego County. Because of the shortage of qualified licensed commercial drivers, the Oswego County Workforce New York office is working closely with local companies to recruit and help train people to fill vacant positions. Although some drivers still spend “six days on the road” as described in the classic song, working conditions for commercial truck drivers have improved significantly over the past several years.
According to the Oswego Fire Department, an adult male was hospitalized after an overnight incident at Wright’s Landing in Oswego. According to officials, the driver of a white Volkswagen drove out about 100 yards onto the ice at Wright’s Landing sometime before 5 a.m., when the vehicle fell through and sank. The victim was able to get himself out of the water, and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team shut out the Fredonia Blue Devils, 5-0, on the road on Saturday night. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 16-3-2 on the season and 11-0-1 in SUNYAC play, while the Blue Devils fall to 9-9-3 overall and 5-7-0 in conference action.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team tied No. 1/2 Plattsburgh, 2-2, at the Marano Campus Center Arena on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Lakers gave the Cardinals their first conference non-win of the season. Oswego moves to 8-11-2 on the season and 4-7-1 in NEWHL play.
Eileen A. King, 66, of town of Orwell, passed away on Wednesday January 31, 2018, at her home.
Edward J. Hanson Sr. 82, of Phoenix, NY, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday Feb. 3, 2018.
Oswego firefighters made quick work of a structure fire at 1 Mary Street this morning (Feb. 3). Firefighters located an active fire in the basement and quickly extinguished the flames with a hoseline. The fire was contained to a clothes dryer and the area surrounding it. No injuries were reported.
