Members of Port City Toastmasters are planning a meeting on February 6 at 7 p.m. at the Newman Center, 36 New St. Speakers for the evening will include Julie Reed on fundraising options and Kate Olsen, past district governor, will discuss the new computer based Toastmaster training.
The SUNY Oswego planetarium will host “Astronomical Subjects in the Works of Dante, Swift and Verne: Old and New Cosmologies” at 7 p.m. every Sunday during January. The show will explore astronomical subjects in Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” Jonathan Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels” and Jules Verne’s “From Earth to the Moon and Around It.”
To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours.
More than 325 students — including several from the area — completed their baccalaureate studies at SUNY Oswego in fall 2017 and were recognized during Commencement in December.
Couples looking to celebrate their weddings in Oswego’s Breitbeck Park are likely going to be hit with a fee. At Tuesday night’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, councilors gave a favorable recommendation to a request by Tom Kells, DPW commissioner, to approve a charge a per hour fee for use of Breitbeck Park (non-pavilion area) for weddings.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team held the New Paltz Hawks without a field goal for the first 13:27 of the game in cruising to a 73-57 win. The Lakers up their record to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in conference while snapping a three-game losing streak. New Paltz falls to 4-11 (1-7) on the season.
Carolyn M. Jaroszewski, 83, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at home.
The arrest stems from the investigation into an incident that occurred in the town of Hastings. He allegedly engaged in sexual contact with the victim while the victim slept.
