Summer Brings The Highest Number Of Calls To The Upstate New York Poison Center

The Upstate New York Poison Center sees the most calls in July and August each year. Many factors are at play, including children being out of school, routines are off, and exposure to new potential poisons. Our poison center last July and August received nearly 9,500 calls. More than one-third of those calls were for children 12 and under.

If you are a man who enjoys hot dogs and sausages, you might want to rethink how much of those you eat. A study published in the British Medical Journalfound that men who ate high amounts of ultra-processed food were at 29% more likely to develop colorectal cancer than men who limited the amount they ate. The same connection was not found among women.
