Head Start received a generous donation of recorded classic children’s books for the preschool children.

Elizabeth Russell, an Oswego County AmeriCorps member based out of the Phoenix Public Library, organized a summer reading program for children and teenagers.
Russell’s community project was recording audio books of classic children’s literature.
Russell had five student volunteers who assisted with the project.
Twenty-six audio books and two CD players were donated to the Oswego County Head Start Program.
Head Start provides Pre-Kindergarten education programming for three- and four-year-old children in seven locations throughout the county.
The donations were received by Evelyn Lynne, the education coordinator for Head Start.
Lynne said that literature and early language development are the key to school readiness and academic success.
