A Mystery to ‘Die’ For

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Players organization is proud to kick off its 75th season with the play that spawned the classic Hitchcock film, “Dial M for Murder,” penned by English playwright Frederick Knot.

It caught the interest of the late, great Alfred Hitchcock, who set about adapting the play to film with stars Ray Milland, Grace Kelly and Robert Cummings.

Knot’s work often focused on women who innocently became the potential victims of sinister plots, and “Dial M” is no exception.

Interestingly, Cary Grant had created the role of Tony on stage and was interested in doing the film, but was ultimately convinced that audiences would not accept him as a villain.

Director Troy Pepper, barely catching his breath from December’s sold-out “It’s a Wonderful Life,” is raring to go with this spine-tingling thriller.

His cast includes Liz Ladd as the intended victim, Margot, Aaron Callahan as the plotting Tony, Kyle Cumby Walton as Max Holliday, Nathan Wescott as Captain Lesgate, and Michael Paul Callahan as the intrepid Inspector Hubbard.

Additionally, veteran actor Zane Leo portrays two characters (Thompson and O’Brien) with Julia Preston-Fulton a reporter.

There will be a preview reading and talk-back with the actors at River’s End Bookstore on January 23 at 6 p.m.

The actors will be in costume and will perform scenes from the show.

Bill Riley, River’s End owner and dedicated patron of the arts, will plan to have refreshments on hand.

Don’t miss this.
