Oneida Street Bridge Rehabilitation Expected to Begin In May

The Oneida Street bridge over the Oswego River in Fulton is expected to see a rehabilitation period beginning at the end of May, according to city officials. The Fulton Common Council unanimously accepted a bid on Tuesday (April 25) of $1,888,597.95 from Vector Construction Corporation to complete the project, the lowest bid received out of four. At the same time, the council also advertised to accept bids for the rehabilitation of the North Sixth Street bridge over CSX in Fulton, located between Kimball Avenue and Clark Street.

Friends of Fulton Parks Honors Earth Day with Canal Clean Sweep

Roughly 30 volunteers came together to work with Friends of Fulton Parks to honor Earth Day (April 22) by cleaning the area along the Oswego River and Fulton’s Veterans Park. As part of the Parks & Trails NY and NYS Canal Corporation’s volunteer event, Canal Clean Sweep, Friends of Fulton Parks organized a local Canal Clean Sweep for the city of Fulton, the fourth year participating. “I’m just proud to be a part of this community where people come together for things like this,” said FoFP founder, Kelley Weaver. Volunteers of all ages cleaned the Canal Landing Marina in Fulton along the Oswego River from the downtown gazebo to the public library.

Community Honors Amber Neivel, Supports Mourning Family

The Fulton community came together to honor the life of 39-year-old Amber Neivel after her body was discovered in the Oswego River on Sunday, April 9. Neivel’s two children, father, sister, and several relatives were showered with support from loved ones and strangers alike offering words of comfort and sorrow as the community hosted a candlelight vigil in her honor.

Guest Speaker to Discuss Addiction Treatment at Phoenix HOPE Meeting

The Phoenix addiction support group, H.O.P.E will host a special guest speaker for the Phoenix and surrounding communities. A free, public support group meeting will feature guest speaker Jared Croy from Advanced Recovery Systems beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20. The meeting will take place at the Sweet Memorial Building located at 455 Main Street in Phoenix.

Hometown Basketball Icons Share Knowledge at Fulton Youth Clinic

The third year of Fulton Youth Basketball’s spring clinic brought an impressive roster of Fulton native basketball success stories to share their knowledge of the sport with today’s dedicated young players. This year, the clinic offered two hometown basketball experts to speak to the group and host a shooting clinic. Robin VanSchneider, the all-time leading scorer for women’s varsity basketball in Fulton and Kevin Broderick, current Nazareth College men’s basketball coach and former record setting coach at SUNY Oswego spread their expertise among the eager players.

Fulton Family Hosts Community Egg Hunt for Second Year

For the second year, a Fulton family has taken the initiative to host an Easter egg hunt for children in the Fulton community. Last year, Robert Zentner, 26, and Char Zentner, 20, noticed that there was not anything for the kids to do in the Fulton community to celebrate Easter. Together, they decided to change that. The day before Easter, (April 15) the Zentners hosted their second Easter egg hunt event at Van Buren Park for all kids in the community.
