Fulton BOE Adopts 2017-18 Budget Following Increased State Aid

The Fulton Board of Education unanimously adopted a $70,782,921 budget for the 2017-2018 school year with the six present board member’s votes in favor. In it’s adopted form, the budget shows a 0.63% increase in spending from last year with a 1.34% decrease in the tax levy, resulting in lower taxes for property owners within the district. “I think it’s a fair budget,” said FCSD superintendent, Brian Pulvino.

Fulton Block Builders Complete Fundraising Match for $100,000 Grant

“Local businesses have taken the Fulton Block Builders over their fundraising goal! Kenwell Corporation, Mimi’s Diner, Eastern Shore Associates, Patterson Warehousing, and Bellinger Auto Sales & Service have all donated to the Fulton Block Builders, collectively putting FBB over our goal,” said Linda Eagan, FBB Administrative Director. Realizing the goal meant matching a $100,000 commitment from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation to jump start the grassroots organization in its first year.

Elected Officials React to United States Attack on Syria

On Thursday (April 6) in the late evening hours, Americans learned that President of the United States Donald Trump had issued an attack on an airfield in Syria. Congressman John Katko said the attack from the United States was a proportional response. Senator Charles Schumer expressed that the U.S. response was the right thing to do. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said a response was demanded from the United States and the world community following Syria’s recent use of chemical warfare. The U.S. attack was in response to a chemical weapons attack initiated on innocent Syrian civilians on Tuesday (April 4) by the hands of Syrian dictator, Bashar al-Assad, President Trump said in a three minute press briefing last night (April 6.)

Fulton Family Video Contributes to Lymphoma Research

The Family Video movie rental store in Fulton has used spare change to raise more than $800 for Lymphoma research. As part of the annual “Round-It-Up” campaign, Family Video customers were offered the opportunity to donate the change of every purchase, rounded to the nearest dollar, to the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Bio Bank at the University of Chicago.

Community, School District Connect at Third Annual Parent University

The third annual Parent University was “phenomenal,” said Geri Geitner, the director of student support services at Fulton City School District. “The best part for me, was to see everyone having fun. To see that school is fun, learning is fun, and to see parents and children getting to enjoy that together,” she said. The event, in its third year, has grown bigger and better with each passing year. Saturday, (April 1) G. Ray Bodley High School hosted the event with five hours of free family fun.
