Veterans Receive State Honors
Honoring local veterans and their years of service to the country, Assemblymen Will Barclay, Dave Townsend and Bob Oaks presented a slate of state Military Service Awards to veterans Thursday evening at the Fulton War Memorial. Approximately three dozen veterans received honors.

Library Request Approved
Though down by one vote at the close of polls Tuesday, the results of the Fulton Public Library proposition requesting a $50,000 increase in operating money overturned Wednesday after six challenge votes were deemed valid. In the end, the proposition received two more votes in favor of the request than opposed.

Hannibal Voters Reject Budget
Hannibal Central School District is regrouping this morning after receiving a “no” vote to its budget proposal Tuesday. District voters rejected the $25.1 million proposed budget 358 to 279.

Voters Say ‘Yes’ To Fulton Budget, Bus; Library Vote Uncertain
Residents in the Fulton City School District weighed in in favor of the proposed 2008-09 spending plan and bus proposition at the polls Tuesday. At this time, however, it appears voters may have rejected Fulton Public Library’s request for an additional $50,000 in operating funds for the coming year.

Polls Open This Morning
Residents in the Fulton and Hannibal school districts are being asked to go to the polls today to cast votes on proposed school budgets. Candidates will also be selected for three available seats on both boards of education. Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., in both communities.

Friends of History Host Focus Groups
The local historical society is hoping to turn a slate of discussions into better services at Fulton’s history museum, the John Wells Pratt House. The Friends of History in Fulton, N.Y., Inc., has started a series of focus group discussions to come up with ideas for its operations.

Court Orders: Clean Up Or Face Trial
A Fulton property owner has just more than two weeks to clean her property or go to trial. Susan Weichard owns the property at 230 Cayuga St., Fulton, which was destroyed by a fire last year. A Fulton City Court Judge said last week that if the debris is not removed within three weeks, Weichard will go to trial June 4.

Pets or Poultry?
A Fulton property owner who has faced several charges in Fulton City Code Court may be brought up on additional charges for keeping chickens in his back yard in the city’s Sixth Ward. William Rinn III defends that the animals are his children’s pets. City attorney Mary Rain maintains that Rinn has to decide which goes first: the chickens or the charge.
