After more than a decade on the Oswego County Legislature, current chairman Russ Johnson was defeated Tuesday by a first-time challenger. Political newcomer Louella LeClair defeated Johnson at the polls Tuesday almost 2 to 1, securing 500 votes to Johnson’s 253 in the race for the 25th Legislative District.
With the election results in hand, Republicans in the city of Fulton had much to celebrate Tuesday evening. With an overwhelming margin of voter support, Ron Woodward will return to the helm of city hall in 2008, accompanied by five Republican aldermen. Longtime incumbent Robert Weston returns, too, becoming the Fulton Common Council’s lone Democrat once again.
Polls are open this morning for the 2007 General Election. By 9 p.m., voting results will start to show who will hold positions in top seats at city hall. At the close of polls this evening, Fulton Daily News will begin updating election results as they become available.
The Fulton mayor says he is angry about the state Department of Health’s decision to close inpatient beds and the emergency department at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital. His fingers are pointing straight to the top of the state’s chain of command.
Delivering anti-drug messages and stressing the importance of education and determination to reach goals, professional skateboarder Andy Macdonald visited students at Fulton Junior High School Friday. The eight-time World Cup Skateboarding Champion and X-Games gold medalist visited the school as part of the Verizon Wireless “STR8 TLK†program.
