At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, the 2018 budget was approved 5-2 with councilors Pat McLaughlin and Shawn Walker voting no. Adding funding to the budget for upgrades for the Kingsford Park playground was the stumbling block. The $45,715, 532 spending plan carries a tax increase of 3.48 percent. The tax rate per $1,000 assessed value is 15.67.
Tink, which is short for Tinkerbell, is more of a scamp than a good little fairy. She loves to play with other cats, and we mean she is a serious no holds barred player. If your other cats are all reserved and well-behaved, Tink is probably not the cat for you! She loves people and kids, the more the merrier, and purrs the minute you pick her up.

It was 60 years ago on Aug. 18 that three workers lost their lives during one of the final phases of the construction of Oswego’s water intake tunnel. A fourth man, one of the dozens of volunteers who mounted a rescue attempt, also died after being overcome by gas fumes in the tunnel. Rescue attempts were slowed because volunteers had to wade through thigh-high water for the first 1,000 feet or so of the tunnel.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a motorcycle accident in the 2100 block of West Genesee Road near the Interstate 690 underpass in the town of Lysander, which injured an Oswego County couple. Both were transported to Upstate University Hospital, where the male driver is currently being treated for a hip injury while the female passenger is being treated for a serious head injury.
The Oswego County Health Department has received notification from New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker of the declaration of an “Imminent Threat to Public Health” for mosquito-borne disease. The declaration enables the County Health Department to take steps, including aerial spraying, to control mosquito populations in Oswego County.
