Several new police officers and firefighters were sworn in recently at a ceremony at Oswego City Hall. Four members of the fire department received promotions, as well.
The average temperature last month was 46.6 degrees. That is 1.9 degrees above average. It was also slightly wetter than normal. Local observer for the National Weather Service, Bill Gregway, admits he was a little surprised at how warm April 2013 turned out. “I thought it was a little chilly. But it was warmer,” he said. “The figures don’t lie.”
The Leadership Oswego County’s Class of 2013 will be delivering special gift bags to area seniors. The group has been gathering things to help make life a little easier and more enjoyable for those residing in area senior sites. They have put together more than 530 bags.
The college and board is working to reduce expenditures of its $32.36 million operating budget by approximately $1.5 million before the end of the fiscal year on August 31, 2013, to help make up for an unexpected 5 percent enrollment decrease.
A local physican’s failure to maintain accurate patient records and negligence has resulted in his ability to practice being limited. Dhanraj J Soogree, MD, of 144 W. Fourth St., Oswego, was cited recently by the the NYS Department of Health. The limitation is effective as of May 2, 2013.
Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen and members of the Common Council are extending an invitation to the citizens of Oswego to attend a city-wide “town hall” format meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Common Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall.
The annual “Walk for Autism” drew approximately 300 people to Leighton Elementary School and the nearby Wilber Field on Saturday afternoon. Organizers admit the number was down from past years, but the participants were “just as dedicated as ever.” Besides acting as a fundraiser, the event, sponsored by the Oswego County Autism Task Force, also focused attention on the plight of Autism victims in Oswego County.
