A group of 11 GRB students joined about 700 of their peers from FBLA chapters throughout the state to compete in over 75 categories which demonstrated career competencies, business knowledge, job skills and leadership skills.
Groups of students were tasked with cleaning fryer oil dyed with cocoa powder off of feathers to give them the essence of helping animals affected by an oil spill. Students also had to separate oil from water to simulate a clean-up effort in the ocean.
Mikel’s Auto Repair and Sales, located on Klocks Corner’s Road in Oswego, has donated a gift certificate in support of the annual “Bundle of Bucks” Charity Raffle Drawing Party taking place May 6. The gift certificate will be one of many prizes up for grabs at the event; including the big drawing for cash prizes totaling $25,000.
Fulton students, families and community supporters packed the GRB auditorium for the annual Bodley’s Got Talent showcase, presented by the Hope Club. More than $1,000 was raised for the local charity of Oswego County Opportunities, the national charity of Make-A-Wish Foundation and the international charity of Volunteers for Peace.
Graduating seniors were recognized in their final performance as members of the Sandy Creek High School Concert Band by Band Director Thomas Artini during the spring concert on April 6.
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 24 Oswego, is offering a Boating Safely class on May 7 at the Sandy Pond Sportsman Association, 3201 County Route 15, Pulaski from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Successful completion of this class will result in a Boating Safety Certificate.
The news team at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School were featured guests in the studios at News Channel 9 WSYR-TV studios in Syracuse recently. The students who have been doing their own version of the morning news at APW Elementary this school year got a behind the scenes look at how the local television station runs.
In 2005, coordinators organized the first ever Regional Awareness Program for Young Drivers, nicknamed RAP for short. The program was prompted by several accidents involving teen drivers that year. Today, statistics show that teen driving deaths, at least locally, have dropped dramatically.
G. Ray Bodley High School recently welcomed Liza Wiemer for it’s first-ever author visit. Library media specialist Wendy Scalfaro offered up the library for the entire day on April 5 so Wiemer could host workshops with teachers and students on “The Power of Storytelling” and “The Unique You.”
This marks the seventh consecutive year that the PCSD has been honored with the prestigious title, which takes into account the efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum.
