Be kind, always. That was the message Fulton Junior High School students received after hearing the powerful story of the impact Rachel Joy Scott had on friends and family before and after her tragic death. Rachel was the first person killed in the Columbine High School tragedy on April 20, 1999.
With the 2016-17 school year under way, parents in the Phoenix Central School District had a chance to meet their child’s teachers and tour the elementary and middle schools during recent open houses.
There wasn’t a single parking space left at the Volney Elementary School open house, where students had the opportunity to give their families a tour of the building and introduce them to their teacher.
Bowen’s Corners United Methodist Church is preparing for its annual Fall Rummage Sale and Bake Sale. The event will be held Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. until noon at the church, which is located at 758 State Route 176, just west of Fulton.
Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego kicked off the school year with a program featuring Joe Trionfero and his well-known character education program “Show of Love!” Trionfero, whose energy and enthusiasm throughout the program was infectious, engaged students in their school-wide character education initiative now under way.
Alex Brutcher and Morgan Stobart, members of the John C. Birdlebough Class of 2016, were the recipients of the scholarship. Brutcher received $40,000 to continue his education at Ithaca College, while Stobart was awarded $10,000 for tuition at Clarkson University.
Fulton Public Library will host an art show on October 6 from 4-6 p.m., featuring photography by Janelle Wallace. She is a local artist who grew up in Oswego and now lives in Fulton.
After presenting the city proclamation to resident council president Helen Yonkers, Mayor Barlow spent time with a large group of residents discussing topics ranging from city government to answering questions from residents wondering what motivated him to get involved in politics and to seek the office of mayor.
Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton will sponsor a “Lunch and Learn” program with Dr. Renante Ignacio, MD and Pharmacist Jamie Branshaw, RPh, entitled; “Healthy Aging/Know Your Medications” on October 5. The program will be held at the “Under The Moon” Banquet Facility/”Blue Moon Grill” located at 122 Cayuga St. beginning at 11 a.m.
