The scouts helped young visitors dig for prizes in the Treasure Chest daily in the 60-foot exhibit tent located in the mini-NY State Park at the Syracuse Fairgrounds. New York Sea Grant and The Great New York State Fair developed the exhibit in partnership with the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, H. Lee White Maritime Museum of Oswego and others.

New York Sea Grant has announced the publication of Dogs and Harmful Algal Blooms. Harmful algal blooms, especially in the state’s fresh water, are overgrowths of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) that cause water quality problems in lakes and ponds, including the occasional production of potent toxins. These toxins can poison people, household pets, waterfowl and livestock.
One of the much anticipated end of summer traditions at St. Luke is the annual old fashioned bazaar, which took place on the Riverview Terrace last evening, a perfect setting for the carnival-like atmosphere enjoyed by attendees of all ages.
“The Magic of Music,” this year’s theme for National Assisted Living Week celebrations never sounded so good to the residents at St. Francis Commons in Oswego. A performance by The Oswego County New Horizons Band and Chorus was one of the featured events reflecting the integral role that music plays in assisted living residences every day.
Got your running/walking/dancing shoes ready? Light Up The Night is only a few days away. This exciting 5k Run/Walk has some unique features and will raise money to support ARISE’s work to ensure independence for people with disabilities. The event takes place Saturday, September 13.
With a commitment to instruction, academic and social growth of each student, the Fulton City School District will host an attendance awareness celebration this weekend. The event, which coincides with Attendance Awareness Month, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Fulton Education Center, 167 S. Fourth St. Families are invited to participate in an afternoon of free activities, food, music, games and prizes.
Without the United Way, the PTSA and the business and individual donations, the required supplies would not be available. And without the dedicated and hardworking members of the APW staff and the local community, the event could not happen.
North Volney Methodist church will host a public supper of scalloped potato and ham on Sept 18.
Serving will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and take-outs are available.
On September 20, the Volney History Center will host a teaching seminar on headstone rubbings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Volney Town Hall on Route 6, Volney Center. Carrie Butler and daughters, JoAnn and Peg, will give a presentation on how to read headstone illegible wordings.
