On April 3, the Sandy Creek Transportation Department along with law enforcement personnel from across the state will participate in Operation Safe Start. At 2:30 p.m. Department of Transportation Supervisor Robin Cashel will share information, statistics and penalties associated with traffic violations and accidents involving passing a stopped school bus.
The LEO Club at Pulaski Middle/Senior High School is a new community service based organization linked as a junior organization to the Lions Club International. The club is a junior division of the Lions Club International. The Pulaski club is one of only a very few LEOs in the Central New York area.
George Baldwin, a representative from the Empire State Carpenters’ Apprenticeship Training Center was on hand at the Construction Technology class at Oswego County BOCES recently where he shared carpentry career opportunities available through the apprenticeship program.
Students became artists at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School recently when renowned Indian folk artist Rani Jha stopped by for a demonstration. Jha, who was visiting America for the first time, discussed the history of Mithila painting. She told students that the artwork was once created by women on the walls of their houses.
Play Ball! Despite rumors to the contrary, adult softball is alive and well in Oswego, and will be played this summer under the direction of the city of Oswego at the Legends Complex.

The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame proudly announces that its class of inductees for 2014 will include Fran Verdoliva of Mexico. Verdoliva will be honored at the annual banquet April 26 in Canastota. He has been a spokesman and advocate for ethical fishing standards and increased opportunity for salmon and steelhead fisherman for several decades.
On March 16 from 8 a.m. – noon there will be an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet for Cub Scout Pack 888. The Masons’ breakfasts usually includes their renowned French toast, pancakes, home fries, eggs, bacon and sausage as well as drinks like coffee, milk, juice and water.
Constellation Energy Nuclear Group and Entergy Nuclear will be upgrading the public warning system that CENG operates and that serves Oswego County’s nuclear facilities. The new sirens will sound at a volume similar to the old ones and the new warning system is expected to be tested the same number of times per year as the old system. This project will involve a total investment of more than $1.5 million.
The top three students enrolled in each Career and Technical Education course were treated to a luncheon – one for students in the morning sessions and one for those in the afternoon courses — at the Mexico campus, where they had an opportunity to meet with one another while receiving words of encouragement from school counselors Scott Henry and Dave Eastman.
