Oswego County BOCES Construction Technology student Derick Powell (Phoenix) is using his class time to outfit the Phoenix Town Court. Powell, a senior at John C. Birdlebough, is working on building a jury box and witness stand for the Phoenix Town Court.
State Police in Fulton are investigating the murder of Anthony Miller of Granby. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear two of Canada’s foremost historians, author Dianne Graves and her husband, military historian Donald E. Graves, speak about civilian life during the War of 1812 and the British assault of Fort Erie at the Oswego War of 1812 Symposium April 5. The fourth annual symposium takes place April 4, 5 and 6 at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, 26 E. First St., Oswego.

Juniors Anita Glenister, Lexi Goodnough, Jay Ivison, Sarah McDougal and Madeline Yousey earned a perfect score on the New York State English Regents Exam that was offered statewide on January 27. For students in the Sandy Creek Central School District this day was actually a snow day.
The Oswego High School will be hosting a hands-on workshop on February 13 to provide high school seniors planning to attend college, and their parents the opportunity to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line.
During their lunch periods, students at Michael A. Maroun Elementary were awarded for their good character and being responsible. Teachers chose students (within their class room) who they felt matched the month’s character trait of responsibility.
The Lunch and Learn program, spearheaded by school/home liaison Ariana Suhr, with the assistance of elementary Academic Intervention Services teacher Kristine Kaufman, was designed to give parents an up-close glimpse at the curriculum. With the Common Core Learning Standards taking hold, Suhr noted that many parents have never seen the learning material as it is currently being taught.
Although the show title may not be as widely recognized as classics like “Hello, Dolly” or “Phantom of the Opera,” the show’s director, Tom Briggs, is confident that “Curtains” will keep audience members entertained and on their toes for the duration of the performance.
