Lanigan Fourth Graders Adopt Animals from Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Zoo to You visited Lanigan Elementary School recently to present an inquiry-based educational program and deliver adoption certificates. Each fourth grade class adopted an animal from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The money was raised from a math-fact-a-thon held earlier in the year where students studied multiplication facts and collected pledges.

School House to White House Run set March 30

The sixth annual School House to White House 5K Run/Walk has been set for March 30 with registration beginning at 11a.m., a kid’s fun run at 12:30 p.m. and the 5K Race/Walk to start at 1 p.m. The race is held as a fundraiser for the Pulaski Marching Band’s trip to Washington, D.C. where they will represent New York State in the National Fourth of July Parade.

Oswego Fire Department Extinguishes Blaze On Duer Street

At 3:09 p.m. today (Feb. 13), the Oswego Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 328 Duer St. A neighbor called 911 and alerted the resident that there were flames coming from the rear of the home. Crews confirmed that two people were home at the time of the fire, but had exited safely without injury.

Volney kindergartners enjoy ‘The Happy Circus’

The Bingley Brothers Circus rolled into town Feb. 3, making a stop at Volney Elementary School to entertain dozens of kindergartners. Students used their imaginations as the auditorium transformed into The Big Top. “The Happy Circus” introduced the audience to different musical instruments and animals, all while teaching students to follow directions and work together as a group.

New DeMolay Chapter needs a few good men

The Oswego District Masons are forming a new DeMolay chapter and welcomes young men to join ages 12-21, as well as qualified adult advisors. An initial informative program regarding DeMolay was held on February 9 at Hiram Lodge 646 Maple Ave., Fulton. DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives.

Students, staff are all heart at Fairgrieve

During the school’s daily Morning Express program, students and staff – clad in red in recognition of February as American Heart Month – opened their wallets and donated money to the American Heart Association. According to Principal Jean Ciesla, the outpouring of support was tremendous, with contributors filling the donation cans with $150.
