The students at Lanigan Elementary School participated in an assembly recently to celebrate the start of a successful new school year and to review the PBIS (Positive Behaviors and Interventions Supports) initiative and the school’s four behavioral expectations: be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and be a problem solver.

The students selected a picture of an animal or animals and then wrote a descriptive paragraph using the 6+1 writing traits model: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation.

A book project whose seeds sprouted almost two years ago is reaching fruition and should be in area bookstores in late September, with our first reading, book signing from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at river’s end book store, 19 W. Bridge St., with our celebration party following at 7:30 p.m.

Every morning students at Fairgrieve Elementary School gather together as a school community to share announcements, reinforce PBIS expectations, celebrate accomplishments and much more.

The carnival atmosphere included two bouncy house activities, music, dancing, food, a book giveaway and an opportunity to drench a teacher with water balloons to raise money for the school yearbook. The well-attended event allowed families to come together as a community at the school to celebrate the start of the new school year.

Adding a little fall color to the BOCES’ campus as part of a classroom learning experience are Career and Technical Education students from OCB’s Floral Design and Greenhouse Technology Program.

The following events are planned at SUNY Oswego this coming month.
