One lucky winner of a raffle to take place during this year’s Harborfest will receive the opportunity to explore Dominica, dubbed the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean, and one of the ultimate destinations for eco-tourism.

Outstanding character, duty, behavior and obligations afforded several Volney Elementary School students the opportunity to be recognized as classroom models because they displayed citizenship throughout the month of June.

Registration for both levels is open at the registrar’s office from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays at the Fulton Education Center, 167 S. Fourth St., Fulton.

Community agencies and businesses volunteered to participate in the school’s Career Day to expose several potential career options to kindergarteners to sixth graders.

Because the students, in grades kindergarten through six, displayed a positive attitude toward others, respectfulness, courteousness, a willingness to welcome others, helpfulness and hard work throughout the month of June, they received the school’s Role Model award for citizenship.

At a recent Sunrise Rotary meeting, Colin Cornell was presented with a scholarship to help further his education.

The Fulton City School District has formed a partnership with the Fulton Public Library to ensure local children avoid the “summer slide.”

This partnership can be successful with the support of parents and guardians, who may encourage reading throughout the summer months so their child doesn’t regress academic achievement made throughout the 2016-2017 school year.

Camps will be held from 8 a.m. to noon July 10 to July 14 at G. Ray Bodley High School. Ensembles include: intermediate/advanced band, intermediate/advanced orchestra, beginner band, beginner orchestra, percussion ensemble and small ensemble groups are to-be-decided.
